Course Description
POLI 205 is an introductory course in the political science program. It teaches students the fundamental of international relations theory.
The primary frameworks covered in POLI 205 are realism, liberalism and constructivism. These frameworks are then used to assess and analyze topics such as nuclear weapons, international treaties and institutions, normative theories, human rights, environmental politics, and political economy.
Evaluations, such as the POLI 205 term paper, assess the student’s ability to apply these different frameworks, as well as models covered in class, to real-world problems and situations. In addition to being very familiar with how these frameworks compare and contrast to one another, students need to be able to analyze situations from these different perspectives.
The ability to effectively conduct research, including by use of academic journals, is also integral success, as is knowing how to effectively present and cite this research.
Knowing how to effectively present material covered in class and reading in the POLI 205 midterm and exam is also essential.
