PHIL 235 - Concordia University - Biomedical ethics

Course Description

PHIL 235 is a philosophy class on eConcordia that focusses on contemporary issues in biomedical ethics.

More specifically, the class focuses on different arguments within current debates in biomedical ethics, as well as on the application of different philosophical theories to these various debates.

Theories covered include utilitarianism, Kantianism, value ethics, and more. Some of the issues covered include reproductive ethics, abortion, euthanasia, animal experimentation, organ donation and transplantation and informed consent.

Evaluation focuses primarily on case studies. Students are expected to be able to analyze and/or present a case study that relates directly to one of the issues being covered. Students should also be able to synthesize the presented information and make connections between different course topics.

Success therefore depends on being able to identify the appropriate theoretical framework to apply to the case. In addition, students must also be familiar with the different arguments pertaining to these different topics. Lastly, students should be familiar with the different readings in the course and how to properly present and cite this information in relation to their argument.

How we can help

Our PHIL 235 tutoring assists students in knowing and understanding the different theoretical frameworks that are covered in the class.

In addition, we assist with understanding the different debates and perspectives surrounding the different issues covered in the class.

Furthermore, we can assist with understanding, analyzing and presenting the different readings that are essential to success for the PHIL 235 case analysis.

General essay tutoring can also be arranged. This will help in understanding how to effectively present and defend an argument for the PHIL 235 essay assignment, as well as how to effectively present research to back up arguments.

One-on-one tutoring can also be customized depending on the goals of the students. Any gaps in current knowledge can be addressed, and we can help students identify these gaps as well.
