COMM 220 - Concordia University - Analysis of Markets
Course Description
COMM 220 is a core course is the JMSB program that stresses microeconomic and managerial economic principles and their application. Students are expected to be able to use these principles to make calculations using examples given by the professor.
To succeed, students must master concepts such as supply and demand, pricing, tariffs and quotas, employment, consumer and seller surplus, bond pricing and more.
Understanding the relationship between buyers and sellers and being able to calculate different prices given different supply and demand factors, for example, is crucial to success. As is being able to calculate total deadweight loss when factors such as tariffs, taxes, and quotas are introduced.
Students also should be able to calculate bond prices given different yields, times to maturity, and payouts, as well as be able to derive these factors when given a bond price. The effects of inflation and other factors on bond prices also need to be understood.
In addition, different measures of employment also need to be calculated given different factors presented.
Success therefore depends on having a complete understanding of these concepts, and also knowing the kinds of examples that will be given on the test and being able to quickly and effectively calculate the answers.
How we can help
Going over examples is integral to student success for the COMM 220 exams. Our COMM 220 tutoring presents students with a number of different examples similar to those that appear on the exam, and we go over answers with students as well as provide sample answers.
In addition to learning how to graph and calculate the answers needed for the exam, students are instructed in how to identify the concepts asked about in multiple choice questions.
One-on-one individual tutoring is very effective for COMM 220, given that students often have certain concepts that they are less clear on. We’re happy to work directly with students to find out where exactly they need help and focus only on these concepts if needed.
Group tutoring and crash courses can also be effective closer to exam time for students who have a strong grasp of the fundamentals and what to go over some exam-style questions. However, it is important that groups for these sessions not be too large, as students often still require individual assistance in order to fully understand where they need to improve.
That said, if you have any specific questions or require any custom help for COMM 220, simply inquire with us to see how we can help.
